The Shree Krishna Gujarati Centre was recently presented with an award at the Minds Matter event, for promoting positive mental health in the community.
Working together with the Community Development Workers, the Centre hosted the Shaanti Project for Peace of Mind, a ten week Relaxation and Meditation program and Kala Aur Kalank, exploring art and mental health stigma.
The main aims of the projects were to improve and promote positive mental health within the Gujarati Community of Dudley. In addition they worked to reduce some of the barriers and stigmas surrounding mental health, whilst providing members with practical skills and methods to manage their own common mental health problems. The sessions took place during 2014 and 2015, with tutors from Dudley Adult Community Learning.
The Minds Matter Award was presented to the Day Centre on Tuesday 15th March 2016, in recognition of their contribution , by the Chief Executive of Dudley & Walsall Mental Health NHS Partnership Trust.
